Lacquer Laced

Hey all!! Today has been a somewhat lazy day, I watched a few movies, did some laundry, made homemade strawberry ice cream, vanilla bean ice cream, chocolate cayenne ice cream, and chocolate cinnamon ice cream. :) Nom nom nom. One of the movies I watched was Somewhere in Time. (Sadly one of my all-time favorite movies) Terribly cheesy, but I adore it. I even have a picture of myself standing in the same spot Jane Seymour did in the movie when she and Christopher Reeves first met by the lake. :-D I also LOVED the Grand Hotel, which is where they filmed that movie. I got the chance to stay there, and it was lovely, I particularly enjoyed the dress code, which required men to be in suits and women in dresses after 5. I dunno, seems silly, but it made it feel 'special', and the 5 course dinner was pretty damn good- I had wild rabbit one night, duck, lobster bisque, you name it. :-D The Grand Hotel was the first time in my life I ever golfed as well, I was forced to participate in a scramble against my will by my then boyfriend. lol Apparently, though, I'm a natural, and on one of the holes I even came close to the longest drive- I was only 10 yards off!! :) Anyway, to the nails. I was inspired by the fashions in the movie, and thought lace would look pretty, so I painted it at the cuticle, sort of like a twist on a moonicure.

I used MAC Abalone Shell as a base, I can't stress enough how much I adore this color. :) For the lace, I used American Apparel Cotton, then topped everything off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.

Class tomorrow- woo!! We're finally making sourdough- and I've been 'feeding' the starter all week- it REEKS! lol (that means it'll probably taste amazing.) :-D

Me at the tree on Mackinac Island (pronounced MACK-IN-AW), when I stayed there in 2007. :-D I'm SUCH a dork.

OPI - Opening night gold

I'm going to have a holographic week this week of the holo polishes I haven't swatched yet.  I love holo polishes so much, and as the weather gets colder here, the sparkly bits make me all warm and happy.

First up is OPI Designer Series, Opening Night Gold.  I'm showing my OPI swatches up first, in case there are any you like and want to run out and grab from an etailer before we are no longer able to (because of the whole OPI suing transdesign thingo going on).

Opening Night Gold is rather spectacular.  It's a neutral toned, flesh coloured holographic polish.  It applied perfectly and I really love the OPI brush.  This was three coats.  The holo effect in this polish is more a scattered finish like China Glaze Kaleidoscope collection, than the linear formations seen in China Glaze OMG or Nfu Oh holos.

This polish does remind me a little of Nubar Spark, but I think this is a little paler. In fact I have a few neutral / brown / gold toned holos, I think I need to do some comparison swatches.

The next photo was taken indoors, so you can see that this is very nude and subtle.
Here is a close up of a nail in the sun. Beee-uuttee-iiff-fulll.

Unlike Nfu oh holographic polishes, this dried to a very high sheen. It didn't really need a top coat, but I did one anyway.  And I didn't find that the top coat dulled the finish either.

I also found the wear on this sooo much better than Nfu Oh or my China Glaze holographic.  It didn't chip or flake off.  I got a good solid three days from this polish, and then took it off because I wanted to change polishes, not cause the polish was chipping.

Messy Polishing...How To Clean Up Your Manicure!!!

This is just a short and sweet little tutorial on how I clean up my manicure after I polish.  There are plenty of tutorials out there but, this one is mine :)

These are my supplies: (all pictures are clickable to enlarge)

I keep my pure acetone in the pink container.  I use pure acetone because the clean up is much easier for me. The first brush in the front is an angled eyeliner brush. Next 2 brushes are #6 & #8 American Painter chisel blender brush...purchased these at Michael's Craft Store.  The large brush is an ecotools eyeshadow brush. This brush was too big for me to clean around the cuticle area for the gap but, it's good to use if you get polish on the skin area of the nail. Whatever brush you choose to use make sure its stiff and not flimsy.

Here is a better picture of all the brushes

I usually use the American Painters #6 brush. Pump the container with the bristles of the brush  and out comes the acetone.  Wipe off polish on skin and cuticle area.  It takes pumps of acetone and several swipes to clean around fingers.

See results after clean up...Take your time you can do it!! :)
I know some of you don't like leaving a gap at the cuticle and that's okay its just what I prefer.
There you have it.  I surely hope this helps you.  Any questions please don't hesitate to ask.  Until next time have a great nail polish day!!
