On Memorial Day

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

-John McCrae, 1915

I remember every memorial day weekend growing up my mom would always have a crepe paper poppy attached to the strap of her purse, and I remember that whenever I was with her, she would give me a dollar to donate so i could have one too. I loved those little paper flowers, though I hardly understood their significance way back then. Memorial Day is for remembering, for honoring, and for thanking those who have given their lives, or are risking their lives to make sure that we have the rights and liberties that we have here in America. My grandfather was a veteran, and I remember visiting his and my grandmother's graves every Memorial Day and looking at the flags pushed into the earth of their graves. My sister played TAPS on her trumpet at the cemetery, so it was mostly my mom and I, since it was her parents. I suppose that I'm blessed in the fact that not many of my loved ones (friends or family) are in any branches of the military, I have a couple of friends serving in various branches, and for that, I thank them, but I never have to worry about a family member not coming home, like so many others in this country. Regardless of that fact, I extend my thanks and eternal gratitude to those serving this magnificent, though sometimes flawed, country of ours. In honor of our armed forces, I did the logos for the Marines, the AIr Force, the Navy, and the Army, as well as the American flag accented with what else, a poppy. :) I apologize that the logos aren't perfect, but I did what I could with the space I had. ;)

I used:

Thumb: American flag & poppy

American Apparel Cotton as a base with CND Anchor Blue for the blue, and China Glaze Salsa for the red of the stripes as well as the poppy. for the black I used American Apparel Hassid, and for the green, I used CND Green Scene .

Index: Marines

American Apparel Passport Blue as a base, with China Glaze 2030 from Khrome Collection for the gold, and China Glaze Salsa for the red, over Sally Hansen All the White Stuff, so the red popped.

Middle: Air Force

China Glaze Millennium as a base, with CND Anchor Blue for the logo.

Ring: Navy

Sally Hansen All the White Stuff as a base, with American Apparel Passport Blue, China Glaze 2030 from Khrome Collection for the gold, Sally Hansen All the White Stuff for the shield, with CND Anchor Blue for the blue on the shield, and China Glaze Salsa for the stripes on the shield.

Pinky: Army

American Apparel Hassid as a base, with Sally Hansen All the White Stuff for the star, and outlined in American Apparel Manila.

Topped everything off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.

Blue Monday...Barielle JUNE BUG...Aw, sooo unique!

Blue Monday By Annie Lee

Today, I have a very unique polish to show you at least its unique to me. June Bug is from the WildFlower Collection 6 in all.  I missed out on this awesome collection (kicks dirt).  Blue/grey with a flash of teal shimmer and flecks of fuchsia glitter.  Doesn't that sound awesome! Seen several swatches of it, want it, but never purchased it.  A fellow blogger JennyKaye sent it to me as a raok.  Thanks Jenny! ^_^

Great application used 2 coats, this polish didn't have much of a shine. Used top coat David that was sent to me as a raok.  Thanks Renee!  ^_^

June Bug

See the teal flash and the fuchsia glitter

The bottle really shows the teal flash
It's definitely in my top 20

Oops! Don't know where those white spots came from couldn't see them irl

Up close gorgeousness
So there you have it, One of my most unique colors that I own. (hugs bottle)   Until next time Please have a great nail polish day ^_^

Lime Line

Today is another simple one, my apologies- it's been a super busy weekend- I made about 10 dozen cookies along with a bunch of other stuff!! :-P I used another of the new ULTA polishes that I got, In the Limelight, a lime green foil finished polish. Anyway, sorry for the short write-up, it's been a long day and I think its about bedtime.

I used ULTA In the Limelight as a base, with American Apparel Hassid for the lines. Topped it all off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.

ULTA-mate!

Today's manicure is simple, because I was busy busy today! :( I did get an AWESOME new Ulta Professional polish though, so I had to use it- unfortunately it was the only one left in the cardboard display (it's part of a special collection), and there is no label on it, so I don't know what the name of the color is, but I plan on investigating tomorrow... so not to worry, I'll update it in the info. It's gorgeous- a vivid pink with a LIME GREEN reflect?! Sign me up. Awesomeness. LOVE. Anyway. They also had in the same display a lime green FOIL polish- which had a label (In the Limelight), which is gorgeoustastical, I can't wait to use it too...I LOVE foils.

I used ULTA Professional awesome color with no label as a base, with China Glaze Cherish applied with Bundle Monster plate BM03 just to the upper corner of each nail. :) Topped it off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.

Rokk96 - Silver Screen

A new brand of polish today. I actually swatched this a few weeks back, before I had a trim of all my nails.

This Rokk96 brand in Silver Screen.  I bought these from Price Attack, and there is a quite large range of colours in this brand. They were $8 a bottle, or three for $19.

Silver Screen is a fabulous metallic blue.  I'm not really sure what to call all the variants of blue, but this is certainly darker that the other two metallic blues I have (Ulta3 Little Boy Blue and Razzle)  Maybe it's cornflour blue?

On the second day wearing it, I decided to mattify it with Essie Matte about you.  It still looked fantastic.

I found the formula on this beautiful and the wear was very good too.  This was two coats.  I bought two other colours in Rokk96 but haven't tried them yet. Has any one else tried this brand?

Schlongs & Songs

(sorry dad) :-P Tonight I'm going to a show called Naked Boys Singing here in Las Vegas. If you haven't heard of it, it precisely what it sounds like- buff, attractive men singing in the nude. Should be a good time. ;) So, today, for shits and giggles, I decided to attempt to paint the poster on my nails. What is it with me and naked men on my fingernails, seriously? :-D BTW, it is effing HARD to paint tiny little naked dudes on fingernails. HARD! (hee hee) Luckily, because I added the 'censor' bar to make it PG, I didn't have to paint any tiny penises.... or is it penii? ;)

the inspiration:

the nails:

I used OPI Who the Shrek Are You? as a base, with American Apparel Cotton as a base for the dudes and the orange stripe. For the orange stripe, I used essie Tart Deco, for the boys, I used MAC Abalone Shell, then shaded with Nubar Milk Chocolate Creme. For the black bar, I used American Apparel Hassid. Topped it all off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.

How do you like your boys to sing? :-D

Zoya Nail Polish in Instyle!

Instyle's June Issue featured Zoya Nail Polish!
Zoya Maura can be a part of your Summer Style, and the Polish Fairies think that is one HOT color to wear this Summer!

The Zoya Polish Exchange is Awesome!

Blogger for Sophistishe just participated in the Zoya Polish Exchange and she loved it so much she is thinking of doing it again!

"I’ve used three of the colors so far; Creamy, Tosca, and Robin. The Creamy color was a bit too bright to use on my entire nail. I will probably use it to stencil my nails my nails from now on. Tosca and Robin both went on smoothly and all I really needed was ONE coat! The Tosca lasted a week before it started to show significant signs of wear. I painted my nails in Robin last Wednesday. It’s still fresh. I’m so glad I decided to take advantage of the Zoya Nail Polish Exchange, I am very happy with the quality of Zoya so far and I’m actually itching to do another exchange."-Sophistishe

Sophistishe even explains how the Polish Exchange works so check out her blogpost here. Remember the Polish Exchange ends June 30th so you still have plenty of time to participate!

BB COUTURE...Skipper and Intake Valve!

It's Feel Good Friday and do I feel good.  Woo Hoo!  Oh,  have I waited for this looong weekend.  Aren't you glad you are off from work on Monday?  Be careful now.  I may be going to Webster Flea Market on Monday, but don't know for sure.  ^_^.

I have a couple of goodies to show you BB Couture's Skipper from the Butterfly Collection and Intake Valve from the Men's Mechanics 101 Collection.  These polishes are 4 in one with base coat, top coat, nail strengthener and color in one bottle.  Contains No: Toluene, Formaldehyde and DBP!

Skipper butterflies...I love butterflies

Skipper is a pink creme that has a flash of bright pink shimmer.  Can't see it on the nail, but certainly can see it from the bottle. My camera wouldn't pick it  up.  I squealed while applying.  It was smooth as butter. Used 3 coats to make sure my VNL wasn't showing.

                                         Skipper

Intake Valve.  I've heard of the term listening to my father talking about cars.  Didn't know what it was or the purpose of it so here is a picture of it.  Not much, I thought it would have been a big piece of equipment.  What I know...nothing about mechanics. Lol!

My DH was willing to let me swatch Intake Valve on him, didn't have time....but maybe next time ^_^

                                           Intake Valve

Very smooth application taupey, mushroomy creme flash of gold...see it from the bottle. I love these type colors.  Used 3 coats to get an even application.

These and the rest from the collection can be purchased here at Over All Beauty and  Kim will be glad to help you.

Have a great long weekend and keep those Nails Beautiqued ^_^

These were sent to me for review

Getting Carried Away

I'll admit it...I'm a HUGE Sex and the City fan. Love every fashion-filled, cosmopolitan-sipping moment of it. (especially those moments that include Aidan, AKA John Corbett... *drool* <---been dreamy since Northern Exposure) I would kill for Carrie Bradshaw's wardrobe and shoe collection (mostly the shoe collection- I'm a big shoe collector in addition to my nail polish ;)) Anyway, my roommate and I, along with a few other girls, are going to see Sex and the City 2 tonight, I'm super excited!!! I'm curious to see what happens with the Aidan bump-into. (hell, I'd pay the $12 just to stare at him on screen for 2 hrs). The ring finger nail in today's design is way over the top (hence the 'Carried Away' tie-in in the title). Hope you like them! :) Sorry they're a tad shaky though, I was shaking so badly while I was doing them that it was impossible to draw straight lines!! Also, check The Daily Nail: REVIEWS later tonight for a review of the ULTA Glam Goth collection! :)

I used American Apparel Hassid as a base for the black nails, and Zoya Trixie for the jeweled nail. For the pink of the skyline, and logo, I used Massini Power Pack (an inexpensive brand that midwesterners can find at Meijer, but I'm not sure where else to purchase it), and the rhinestones were from Michaels Crafts. :) Topped it all off with some Seche Vite top coat, and away I go. :)

Who's your favorite SATC character- male or female?

Aidan....*sigh*

MAC LE Pret-a-Papier Collection 2010...Brown Bag and Originality

Good Morning!  I hope you are doing well ^_^   Mannequin hands or Nude?  Which one do you prefer?  Me I rather say Nude.  I heard not so good things about Mac's Nail Polish.  Well, let me tell you with this collection the formula is GREAT no application issues what so ever.  1st coat opaque used 2 coats.

I love brown bag, it is a creme with a slight shimmer in the bottle and while applying but, seem to disappear once dried.
See the shimmer in the bottle

                        Originality...Love It!! Copper Flakie Foil!
Sorry about the shadow,  much prettier irl

Shiny, flakie goodness!!

blurred to see the shimmer
Did you get this collection? I sure hope you did because if you didn't you are missing a couple of good polishes. As always have a great nail polish day!

Sally Hansen Blue It

I have swatched this polish in a comparison with my other blues, but I haven't done it on it's own.  This is Sally Hansen, Xtreme wear polish called Blue it.  I love the name and I love the polish.

These polishes have a really long and flat wand that really holds the polish.  I found I could do a couple of nails without having to redip into the bottle.

This polish has fantastic pigment and was almost a one coater.  But I did two just to ensure it was totally even.

There's a georgous blue metallic shimmer to this polish and it doesn't dry streaky at all.

Blue it - Love it.

Mum's the Word

So today I did some swatching of some new colors I snagged at ULTA (post will be up tomorrow), so I didn't have a ton of time left in the day to do an awesometacular design, but I love how simple and striking the palette and image I used for today's design are. I used another of the Bundle Monster plates for this design, I think that it looks like a stylized version of a Chrysanthemum, or 'Mum'.

I used American Apparel Cotton as a base, with American Apparel Hassid for the black mums and Essie Foot Loose for the pink mums, which I applied with Bundle Monster plate BM02. Topped it off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.

Today was an awesome day- the story that was written about me for the Las Vegas Weekly Magazine was posted online, and the print version hits newsstands tomorrow here in Vegas!!! :) I'm thrilled!!

Las Vegas Weekly: Nailed It!.

I loved the article- and the last line was a perfect ending! :-P

What is your Favorite Nail Product Right Now?

Mandabear's favorite nail product right now is Zoya's Get Even Ridge Filling Base coat and we have to agree that it is pretty amazing!
"Lately I have been using Zoya's Get Even Ridge Filler as my base coat and I am super impressed.  It smooths out my nail texture, so the actual color goes on evenly.  I also I didn't experience any minor chipping whatsoever until about 4 days later and my nails still looked good!"- Mandabear

So ladies do your nails a favor and treat them like mini goddesses with Zoya's Get Even Ridge Filling Basecoat!

NYX Paradise...Will you be with me in Paradise?

It's hump day Wednesday and today I have on NYX Paradise. Paradise makes me think of beautiful gardens of green trees, flowers,  bright sun and  blue skies.  Looks like a duochrome.  Paradise was quite thin took 4 coats. If I had known before  hand would have used a darker base to hid my visible nail line.

Darker version but above true color

up close shot of the prettiness

So, there you have it.  Have a wonder Wednesday and keep those nails beautiqued  ^_^

Nfu Oh #56 flakey

This is the last of my Nfu Oh flakey polishes.  Unfortunately I don't have #51 so I just have to make do with the less popular ones that I can actually buy here in Australia.

This is #56 which is an amazing rich emerald green, with a green shimmer and green flakies.  On some angles it also has a blue duochrome effect on the green flakes.  Again, it's too sheer for my liking to wear on it's own.  And for some reason it makes me feel like the wicked witch of the west wearing it. Why is that?

Up close of the pretty green flakies.

And here is some magic over black.  I felt like mixing it up a bit, so I did one coat of #56 on all nails, but then added one coat of #43 with the orange flakies too.  This pic in the sun is hard to see all the beautiful colours.

Indoors you can see the colour contrast and you can see the multi colour effect of the blue and green on the index finger.

And even closer. Soooo pretty.

So while I pretty much hate my Nfu Oh flakey polishes on their own, I absolutley love them layered over other colours.

It's such a shame that these polishes aren't more easily available in Australia.  As far as I know there is only one distributor and they have a total monopoly on the market and often charge around $30 for a single bottle, especially of the popular polishes.
