Zoya and Qtica team visits Italy and wins hearts!

Art of Beauty visits Italy!
Evento Zoya & Emani: anteprima - A very special event in Milan, Italy, hosted by Nailevo CEO, Barbara Ferraro,Top Media and Salon/Spa Professionals had the unique opportunity to meet with Zoya Reyzis (Founder), Michael Reyzis and Leo Reyzis of Art of Beauty (makers of Zoya and Qtica).

The Art of Beauty team had the honor to present many awards to top performing professionals and to speak to the crowd, where recent fashion collaborations and collections were spotlighted.

"The lovely Mrs. Zoya herself, made an appearance. She is an incredibly humble and wise woman.  She continued to prove so when she took the time to enlighten me on various topics throughout the evening."

"...The company’s innovative approach has gained them not only a high magnitude of success, but a great deal of esteem within the industry."

"They are the first ever “safe nail-polish formula” and do not contain any chemicals in which are harmful to your health. Each shade of polish is named after a woman’s name; which virtually means that you die hard nail polish addicts out there have the opportunity to have one named after you!"

Bella Flora

If this is what you're thinking right now: "Whoa, what a cool colour, I need that nail polish!", then I suggest not buying Bella from Essence, 'cause Bella looks much greener than my picture shows. If you're looking for a fabulous sea green creme though, this nail polish will not disappoint! Bella glides on smoothly and two coats are enough for an opaque result. The flower image I used for my ring finger nail.. ahh, I like it so, so much. It's my all-time favourite Konad image, no joke! You can find it on image plate M20. The stamping polish I used is Konad Special Nail Polish in White and I placed a dot in the middle of the flower with Charla from Zoya. And can I say I love my top coat? So shiny! ♥

Thanks for watching!

Such a Pansy

Pansies have always been one of my favorite flowers. The contrast between the purple and the yellow and the white is so yummy! I've been wanting to do a manicure featuring pansies for a while, and this is the first attempt. I think I should've picked a different background color, but I also blame the camera for silly contrast problems. (I haven't mastered manual mode yet.)

The base is OPI, Stranger Tides. The purple petals are Kieko from Zoya, the white petals are Load from Illamasqua, and the stamens are Savina's Grape. Finally, the center yellow pollen is Color Madric's Design Yellow.

Not bad for a first attempt, but not the best.

UPDATE: 2/3/12

I've created a tutorial for this manicure. Enjoy! (I'm also trying a new layout for my tutorials, and I must say, I love it.

Nabi Glitter polishes - Gold big ball over Zoya Mimi

I got some new Nabi polishes last week from a discount cosmetics shop on the other side of tow.n.  Here is a spectacularly crappy photo of them taken on a piece of paper on top of the BBQ out the back!  That's right, no fancy light box for me, your lucky there's not grease spot showing through the paper :).

I've been so into glitter polishes recently.  Every time I go to put something on I pick up a glitter bottle and work out what I can match it with.  This combo is Nabi 'Gold Big Ball', which is most certainly a Chinese import and not three free from the smell of it.  Ohhhh I love the smell of toxic nail polish!

Gold Big Ball has three sizes of gold hex glitter, with smallest and largest pieces being holo gold glitter!  Yell yeah, super sized gold holo glitter!

I layered one coat of Nabi gold big ball of two coats of Zoya Mimi.  Application of the glitter was a bit tricky and I did need to search for the glitter pieces in the bottle and roughly place them on the nail.  But the final look was definitely worth it.

I wore these nails to work on Thursday (I know, totally work appropriate right!)  At the end of one meeting with some ladies in another division, one of them leaned over to me an said "Seriously, your nails were so distracting during that meeting".  How cool is that!  I'm used to distracting myself with my nails, but I love it when I can distract someone else too!

New Year's Eve Nails

A little late in the day to post this, but this is what I'm wearing tonight. We're going dancing in Hillcrest at Eden. Should be a fabulous time!

I used Zoya's Ginessa as the pearly white. Here you can see it before adding the embellishments.

Then I stamped with Black on Black from Sinful Colors. The plate was Konad's m64.

Finally, I glittered it up with Uninhibited from L.A. Girl, the Glitter Addict collection. By the way, I stopped by a Rite Aid last night for non-nail related business, and stumbled upon an entire display of these awesome polishes. I picked up a bunch, so in addition to the ones my sister gave me for Christmas, my collection is young, but large! If you live near a Rite Aid, see what you can grab, because these all rock.

Happy New Year!

Can you believe we're living the last day of 2011? Time flies! On my nails something festive of course. This is by far my favourite sponged mani. In real life it's much sparklier than the pictures show, totally awesome! Yesterday I posted my ten favourite manis of 2011, but I must add this mani to the list.. so a top 11 for 2011 it is, how convenient, lol. I applied two coats of Kelly from Zoya. Then I sponged half of the nail with Speciallità - Hefesto, an amazing prismatic top coat. For some extra bling I also added Blair from Essence on the tips.

Have a wonderful day/evening/night! I hope 2012 will be an amazing year for you all. :h

Holiday Sprinkles

Warm up the hot chocolate and the chai, it's Christmas time!

I got in the spirit today by decorating the office for the holidays. For those that don't know, Andy and I work together and live together. We're interns, but we've worked there just shy of a year. So tasks like decorating, planning parties and making lunch runs aren't uncommon at this point in our jobs. I consider it a perk most of the time.

Decorating for the holidays means putting up lights, trees and ribbon. The trees and ribbon were easy, but when it came time to put up the lights, there were hurdles. Hurdles meaning dead bulbs...meaning half-lit strings of lights. Zuzu says that every time a bell rings, an angel gets it wings. Well, every time a bulb burns out, a devil gets its horns and proceeds to royally screw up your next few hours.

Commence unplugging and plugging in of suspected burned out bulbs causing the lackluster light display. What do you get? Nada. Nothing great or grand or Christmas Vacation overkill. Just the same stupid lights, staying same stupid broken. :(

BUT! I refuse to Grinch out. So I took a little inspiration from Ashesela at Art Evolve and whipped together a rather easy and scrumptuous manicure, despite the ruined right hand thumb. Should've taken the advice I've seen that says never to use your nails as a tool. You'll also notice the festive red background instead of my usual black.

These holiday sprinkles are brought to you by Zoya Ginessa and China Glaze Twinkle Lights. It's one of the more simple manicures I've featured on my blog thus far, but what's the harm in that?

I dig it, and this is only the first of many holiday manicures waiting in the wing.

Tinseled Poinsettia

I just received Tinsel Town and Poinsettia from China Glaze's Let It Snow collection and my hands were itching to use them. Can you blame me..? They're SO pretty! I applied three coats of Poinsettia, a super glossy blue-toned red, and the glittery Tinsel Town at the base of the nail. I really like to use glitter for accents, but I can imagine Tinsel Town looking totally awesome on its own. Can't wait to try it. :)
Poinsettia reminded me of one of my all-time favourites: Kristi from Zoya. And look how close they are! I used two coats here. As you can see Kristi is more opaque and maybe a bit darker; Poinsettia is much more glossier. But you can increase the opacity with an extra coat and use a top coat for a glossy finish.. so let me conclude by saying you probably don't need both.

Thanks for watching!

Nailectricity

Your wait is over. The manicure I bring you today comes with inspiration from Jane at Nailside and her killer tutorial on how to tape off and paint on a lightning bolt, and my newest nail plate collection (RA-110) from Red Angel.

A dubious task for anyone to undertake, this manicure requires three things: patience, topcoats, and steady hands. Of course, you'll need your essentials to actually create this electric look too. I chose Savina's Neon Yellow, Sinful Color's Black on Black (with striping brush Time Off), and my first Zoya, Ginessa. The foursome come together in an electrifying way, and may just remain on my nails for longer than one day.

I warned you yesterday, these plates are awesome, and their out-there designs will surely provide the backdrop for some gorgeous manicures from girls all over. I bought them with no idea how well they would work or how much I would like them, but I assure you, there are no regrets.

Zoya Halloween Order Gone Awry

Before reading, please understand that I am forgiving, and will likely be trying Zoya again. I've heard amazing things about their polish, and I understand this was not their normal procedure. However...

Did you place an order using the zoyatreat coupon code I mentioned in this post? Did you try to place more than one using that code? If you did, your orders are probably on hold, like mine have been for the past two weeks.

Apparently, they got so many orders with that code, that their system was not catching anything that was abnormal. I never got a warning when I placed my second order that I was not allowed to use the coupon code more than one, so payments went through no problem, and I eagerly awaited my package. After some time had passed, I checked my account, and under "My Unshipped Orders", I saw both of my orders, sitting there, taking up space.

I contacted someone from Zoya when I saw this, and received an email a few days later telling me that coupon codes were only allowed once per customer. He then said "Since you inquired about this and have brought it to my attention, I am able to cancel one of the orders and release the other." I didn't reply, figuring that one would be selected for me and the other would be cancelled, since he stated that is what the system normally does automatically anyway.

Fast forward another 4 days. I check my account again, and they're still sitting in the "My Unshipped Orders" menu. Come on! Ship my damn polish already! I sent another email, this time asking if I was supposed to indicate which order I wanted to have shipped and which I wanted to be held. He wrote back almost immediately, explaining that this was abnormal for them and that the order I indicated would be shipped.

It was not made clear to me in the first email that I had the choice of which order I wanted shipped and which I didn't. So now, finally, after almost two weeks of placing my order, I was told "Your extra "zoyatreat" order has been cancelled and I have put in a request to have the other "zoyatreat" order released.

So, lessons learned. Zoya only allows one coupon code per registered user. If you want to use the code more than once, enlist a loved one that doesn't have a polish obsession to get that second order in for you (I'm looking at you boyfriends).

Also, this is my first Zoya experience, and I'm not happy. The lack of communication made me upset. He stated in his email that since the system got so many orders, there was no way they could catch all the customers who used the code twice. So, they "instead gave the customers time to notice this and they would then have the option of which order was cancelled" (though there was no indication in the first email that I had this option). He continues: "If an order was not cancelled by the customer and we were not notified as to which order to cancel, our system would have automatically cancelled one of the two orders and released the other" (though who knows how long it would've taken the system to even notice).

The emails I got were apologetic, and I understand that it was a busy day since it was such a good deal. I appreciate that, but I'm still not a big Zoya fan after this experience. I would think that by offering such an obviously outrageous deal, they would've prepared their staff and system for the impending amount of orders that were about to come in.

I wish this experience wasn't as annoying as it was, but it was, and I thought it worth mentioning so none of you made the mistake of trying to use a coupon code more than once. Even if the system accepts both orders, and accepts both payments, it will inevitably fail and kick back one of the orders.

Ashes & Fire

Yesterday I went to a Ryan Adams concert with my hubby. Even though Ryan had food poisoning (tweet after the show: 'Harmonica part on firecracker = almost puked' :~ ) he managed to give a fantastic show. I enjoyed every minute of it! The name and look of his new album Ashes & Fire inspired me to do this mani. The base colour is Iron Butterfly from Orly and I used Zoya - Rica and Gosh - Rainbow to create 'fiery' tips.
Thanks for watching!

Chunked Shawn

Hmm, I think my nails never looked this weird. Two coats of Zoya - Shawn, one coat of Kleancolor - Chunky Holo Black and a layer of matte top coat (I'm loving the matte texture these days!). I kinda like this mani in all its weirdness.. Tell me, what do you think?

Thanks for watching, enjoy the rest of your weekend!

I'm back with Zoya - Apple

                                                                                                                                                                                              Playa Kenepa
That's right, I'm ba-hack! And I'm happy to tell you I had an amazing vacation on Curaçao; relaxing, swimming, snorkeling, sailing, shopping, mountain climbing... we did it all and more! Of course I painted my nails while I was there, but believe it or not, I painted them just once. o_O I guess my nails needed some time off too, lol. The nail polish I used that one time was a great one: sparkly green Apple from Zoya. A fun and cheery colour ánd it matched perfectly with my green bikini! I believe this was three coats, it applied nicely.

Ahh, it feels really great to be blogging again, I missed it and of course I missed my dear readers. ^_^ I hope you're all doing ok!

Zoya - Midori

This green nail polish was sitting in a dark corner of my Helmer for a long time, but today is her time to shine! Midori from Zoya is a yellow-toned green, not my favourite type of green, so I was afraid I wouldn't like it that much. Boy, was I wrong! What a beautiful polish, that gold shimmer is ah-ma-zing, it definitely makes my heart beat a little faster. Sadly I can't admire and photograph this beauty in sunlight, we're dealing with rain and lots of it. But even without sunlight... Midori's hot! The formula was nice, it applied evenly. I used three coats, no top coat.

Red Nail Polish - By Zoya!

Red Nail Polish - By Zoya Nail Polish

Super sexy and unabashedly sultry, nothing excites, captivates and intrigues more than sizzling red. With just the crook of one red polished finger, or the pouting of crimson lips, a fiery siren’s signal will surely bring any boy or man to her world*. (metaphorically speaking, of course!) So what is it about the color red, and more specifically red nail polish that is just so sexy?

Red equates to love and passion, full of fire and sizzling, steamy heat. The color of energy, motion, excitement, and danger, red is the shade that draws the eye’s intent gaze first, and ultimately keeps it there for moments on end. It is a color full of raw power and sexual energy, that when wielded by an alluring female has the ability to create a lasting impact. It is also a color that is best used in small doses, for maximum effect. On the hand red is and will always be just perfect!

Red nail polish, especially a warm, bright red provides that perfect subtle pop of fire power against an otherwise neutral color palette. There is just something so powerful and sexy in the quick flash of fiery crimson on a delicately painted, feminine hand. Something that excites and titillates, that makes your pupils dilate ever so slightly, and makes your heart beat just a little bit faster. It’s no wonder red is one of the most popular nail polish shades around.

Once you’ve decided the look you are going for, which red to choose? With over 80 different shades- from fire engine, to merlot- Zoya Nail Polish has the perfect finish, the perfect shade, and the perfect amount of pigmentation to boldy color your nails that perfect shade of crimson. For a look that is all sex appeal our pick is Kimmy, a bold, vibrant, metallic candy apple shade that’s every bit as naughty, as it nice.  Or go with the most classic shade of all, Zoya Carmen, it's our best-selling red nail polish for a reason.
Zoya Isla, Sooki and Valentina are all excellent choices as well. Prowl the Zoya Red Nail Polish page to find your perfect red nail polish!
Sultry, powerful, and even a little bit naughty, red nails are always a fashion do. No matter the hue, Zoya has a red that’s right for you.
