Beware of the Cat

When my new Konad plates arrived I immediately fell in love with the cute little bird on plate m83. For this mani I applied two coats of Eyeko - Rain Polish and stamped not one, but two birds on my ring finger nail with Konad Special Nail Polish in Black. It looked cute, but I felt something was missing so I added a naughty cat face (for the cat and the line I used a small paint brush and black acrylic paint). Yes, now it's complete. I have a little story on my nails! :)

I'm not only excited about this mani, but also about my new camera! Of course I have to get used to it(s weight), but it takes much better pictures than my compact camera, without a doubt. I'm hooked. ♥

Eyeko Rain polish

Hello lovely readers! I'm sure you are all happy about the weekend starting. Sadly, I will be studying the whole weekend because I have an exam next week. I'm already very tired from all the work I did today, and I'm totally behind on reading other people's blogs. Hope they won't be too mad at me! But let's get to the polish, shall we?

Eyeko Rain, 2 coats, artificial light

This is an older Eyeko polish that I repurchased when I found out they were discontinued. My older bottle (only 8 ml) was almost empty and what was on the bottom was extremely thick. Unfortunately, the formula of this new bottle is also pretty thick. I definitely need to get myself a bottle of thinner. I don't know what's going on lately, but I'm not very lucky with my manicures. 

Rain is a light blue greysh polish with a hidden shimmer. The shimmer doesn't really translate on the nail, especially after you put top coat over it (which it needed to level out better). I love this color and I find it very elegant and so appropriate for fall/winter. It's very dusty, but not boring at all. 

If you want this polish you should really hurry. There still is a seller on ebay that has them. I'm not sure you would need it though. It's pretty expensive for 8 ml and I believe it's very similar to China Glaze Sea Spray (though I don't own that one to do a comparison). 

Eyeko Cosmic polish

This is one of the discontinued Eyeko polishes that can currently be bought only on ebay ( I wrote about this here). I wanted to get this last summer, but since it’s a dark color I postponed getting it till fall. And just when I wanted to order it, Eyeko stopped selling it, however I still managed to get my hands on a bottle.

 Color:

This is a black polish with silver holographic glitter. It has a certain dept to it which makes for that galaxy type effect. It is especially nice in the sun and in the light, but I have found that the holo in it is not that holo after all. It’s more of a discrete holo, very wearable and not crazy at all.

 Application:

The Eyeko brush is a medium width and pretty long one. I wouldn’t mind if it was thinner, because I’m a true fan of the thin China Glaze and Essie brushes. The length goes with the tall bottle, but you have to be careful while polishing because drops of polish will run down the stem and get on your nail. Other than that, application is no problem and the polish is opaque in two coats.

Eyeko polishes wear very well usually. This one started to show tip wear after two days, but I guess it’s normal considering the horrors I put it through (house work and whatnot). I wore it for 4 days and that's when it chipped. But now I remember that all this might be also because of the crappy base coat I've used with it.

So the question with this polish is: is it a real tragedy that Eyeko discontinued it or not? Well, I have found that it is very easily dupe-able. I just added some Northern Lights Hologram top coat over a black polish (Moyra 35 in my case, but it can be any black) and there I had it. This combo however has a bigger holo effect than the Cosmic polish. You can see this from the comparison pictures.

Verdict:

Eyeko Cosmic is a good quality, easily appliable polish. If you are looking for a galaxy nails type polish with a more subtle holo effect, this one is for you (hurry because it’s not gonna be available for long). But if you’re looking for an intense holo effect, just get yourself a holo top coat and you’re all set.

Hi everybody! This morning I woke up to see a bright sunny day, so I decided to do something fun and bright on my nails. It was also the time to make my first attempt at a stamping manicure because it was the poll winner. Unfortunately the sun went away as I was doing my stamping, so I couldn't photograph it properly. It didn't come out very neat and I was questioning if I should post it or not. Finally I thought it wouldn't hurt to see the evolution of my stamping skills on this blog and therefore I hope you won't judge it very harshly.

The base color

Eyeko Vintage polish is one of my favorite polishes. I've had this since spring and recently bought a back-up because it was discontinued. It's a jade rather than a minty green, because it's warmer. I never had problems with bubbling on this one until now, which makes me think it's because it got thick and I should have added some thinner to it. I wore this one time for 10 days with no chipping and just tip wear,  so I can tell you it's very durable.

I decided to use the M65 image plate from Born Pretty and do a more delicate print so that my mistakes wouldn't be so obvious. I used Kallos 54 for the stamping, a bubblegum pink that became pretty light after I added top coat.

So here's how it came out. The next pictures were all made after the sun went away.

A few things I've learned while stamping full-nail images:

• My nails don't have the same shape. The most trouble I had with stamping was on the really curved nails (see ring finger). The more flat nails like the thumb and ring finger were very easy to do.
• My thumb nail is too wide for the images so I have to stamp twice on it. This wasn't a problem with this pattern but I think it's gonna be very hard with more precise patterns (like lines, squares etc).
• You have to work really fast. Well, I think you already knew that. But the thing is that every move counts. If you take too much with one of the steps, you might as well start again.

Glitter Rain

The light grey-blue polish I'm wearing is Rain Polish from Eyeko. I decided it was a good moment to wear this one when I opened the curtains yesterday morning: grey and rainy weather, ugh! Although I can hate rain, I love Rain Polish, the colour looks so soft and serene. It has a subtle silver shimmer, best seen in the second picture on my middle finger nail (told you it was subtle, lol). For some real sparkle I applied two coats of Color Club - Sex Symbol on the ring finger nails. What a wonderful glitter polish, with an extra coat you'll have opaque silver glitter nails. But I have to say that I really like it this way, with the base colour peaking through...
