Batman Nails!

NaNaNaNaNaNaNa.....Nail Aaaaart
Yonks ago, Zoe over at one of my favie blogs London Lipgloss asked if I would do a Batman manicure, and being the people pleasing, lovely (if late) blogger that I am, I decided to indulge! As I consider myself to  lean slightly more towards comic book geek than most normal people, I was very excited. I just love Superheroes.

Nicole by OPI: Green Up Your Act

Good Morning,

Even though it's still hot and still in the 90's I'm starting to have a feel for darker colors.  I'm seeing lots of  Military greens so I decided to try Nicole by OPI: Green Up Your Act. It's a dusty army green creme that applied wonderfully with two coats.

I'm getting pretty good photographing my dominant hand.

Here I did a little nailart in black and white dots to match my pedi

I can't believe it's the last day in September.  You northerners please blow some cold air down my way. Lol!

Until next time please have a great nail polish day. (✿◠‿◠) Share/Bookmark

Rimmel London mascara review and comparison

Hi everybody! This post is totally out of my comfort zone (nails), so forgive me if I mess it up. It's my first makeup review. I'll try to cover all the basics about these two products, but if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask in the comment section. Here's the two products I will be talking about:
  • Rimmel London Extra Super Lash mascara
  • Rimmel London Glam'Eyes Day 2 Night mascara
To start I have to say that I have pretty thick and long lashes. I use mascara to define my lashes, to make them look fuller and darker and also to accentuate the outer flare of the lashes.

my naked lashes for reference (sorry for the dark circles, I can never get rid of those)

That being said let's start with the first mascara. I've had this mascara for about a month or two and I've gotten around to using it quite a bit. Here's the official description:

Unique combination of the hugely successful Extra Super Lash formula and a totally new, cleverly designed curved brush.Reaches all lashes, even the ones at the inner and outer corners of the eyes. The formula contains hydrogels that form an ultra-smooth film on the lashes that is ideal for building layer upon layer with no clumps and no lashes sticking together.

I really like mascaras with curved brushes because I feel they give that extra flare effect to the outer part of the lashes. This mascara is volumizing  enough, but unfortunately the non-clumping part in the description is totally not true. The brush comes out of the tube with a lot of product on it, especially on the tip. You have to wipe it on the edges of the tube, but even so you still have to use one of those mascara wands to get the clumps out. The lashes stick together and you can't really separate them properly. The tip of the brush, which should reach those corner lashes is so full of product that it only gets clumps in there so you better not use it. Another thing I have noticed about this mascara is that it's pretty liquid and dries in a fairly long time. I don't mind that about it, but maybe some of you will.

the curved brush
my lashes with Extra Super Lash mascara (you can see that many of them are stuck together and some clumps are still present)
Moving on to the second mascara, this is one I purchased 5 days ago, so I didn't have a whole lot of time to test it. The official description:

Rimmel introduces Glam’Eyes Day-2-Night, our first mascara that creates two dramatically different lash looks with just one brush. The secret is the magic double cap! During the day, choose the Length Cap for ultra-long, gorgeously defined lashes – perfect for those flirtatious encounters by the photocopier. And for night time, choose the Volume Cap, and plump your lashes to up to 15 times their normal thickness, leaving them voluptuously lush-looking and ready to party.

So far I really like this mascara. It's a two-way mascara that actually uses the same brush, so I guess the difference would be in the wiping the brush receives by exiting the corresponding part of the tube. The brush and the formula are great. No clumps, shorter drying time and a lot of definition to the lashes. The length part is not enough for me personally, but I'm sure it would be for somebody with shorter lashes. When I use the volume part, it only takes one coat for my lashes to look really long and defined (and not sticking together).

I hope this review has been helpful and I apologize for it being so long. My conclusion is that the Day 2 Night is a much better choice in comparison to the Extra Super Lash. The price difference isn't that big (Extra Super Lash is slightly cheaper) but for the price, Day 2 Night also gives you more product (9,5 ml vs 8 ml). Don't forget to ask your questions in the comments section and thanks for reading!

Spectrafranken - Purple Haven

Another spectrafranken today, cause I have so much fun creating them I just can't stop myself.

As soon as I created this polish I instantly knew who it reminded me of.  Kristy from the Polish Haven. You see Kristy has an addition problem with purple polishes, so I have named this franken after her blog. Purple Haven.

When I went to create this franken, I was looking through all my Ulta3 swatches looking for something dark, but with a jelly finish.  I spotted Gooseberry, which is a very dark purply plum, the clear polish and the spectraflair really lightened it up and created this soft dusty purple.  I really love it.

This was make using:
  • 2/3 bottle of Ulta3 Gooseberry
  • 1/3 clear polish
  • 3 incy wincy straw spoonfuls (each the size of a grain of rice) of Spectraflair coarse grade
Don't forget to get creative and email me your spectrafrankens and/or colour morphing frankens, and go in the drawn to win three Picture Polishes.

Ozotic 601 - the other one

I did this swatch two weeks ago, when we were having the most amazing sunny and warm spring days (and when my ring finger hadn't grown out to match the others yet).  Now the weather is horrible with rain and storms, but at least my ring finger looks normal again.

Anywho, when I first posted about Ozotic 601 I showed an amazing large particle holo, with very a obvious linear rainbow. I suspect a few ladies may had gone and bought it then and I feel my pictures might have mislead people. Because then I started seeing swatches pop up of 601, and they looked totally different to mine, and I hate to say it, not as holoie as mine.

It killed me knowing that there was another version of this, so I had to get it to compare.  This is the new version of 601 which is the version Picture Polish sell.  My older version was sourced from Tip Trendz, who have now sold out and restocked with the new version too.  So if you don't have the older version already, too bad, so sad :(

The new version is a much brighter pink.  It still has a scattered holo effect, but nothing like the older version.

Here are the two bottles lined up.  The older shape on the left and the new one on the right.  Although now of course the bottles are rectangle.

This is how they compare on the nail.  The colour difference is very obvious, but in real life, so is the holo effect.  The new version is totally out holoed by the older version.

See, way more holoie goodness on the older version. Why is that?

Man it makes me crazy when a polish brand changes the colour of a polish.  I know that the Lumineye website says they hand mix small batches of polish, so there would be some colour differences, but seriously if you follow a standard recipe for a polish it should be a little more similar than these two.

New 601, why can't you be more like your older sister 601!

They're Not Teardrops...They're FLOWERS NOW!!!!

Many of you who follow my blog (and probably some who don't!) will know that the designs I showcase are a mixture of both freehand and "stamped" nail art, with the image plates I use for the latter coming from Bundlemonster (and the occasional Konad!). WELL. Bundlemonster don't just do image plates, no Sir, they kindly sent me an array of other Nail Art bits and bobs that I wasn't even aware they produced! These included little wheels of rhinestones of carious shapes and colours, sequins, little starts, little flowers, and even teeny tiny coloured balls.
Many of the rhinestones are in a teardrop shape, and they came in such pretty colours that I really wanted to use them. Call me Little Miss Sunshine, but I didn't fancy using them as teardrops, and so decided to utilize their shape and create little diamonté flowers! Each petal on the flower is a separate Bundlemonster, tear-drop rhinestone - and they're great, really easy to work with:-

My short nails are really starting t bug me now, they just KEEP breaking! I don't want to have to resort to fakies!

I started with a base of Barry M Spring Green, and added the leafy design using Konad Special Polish in Green, from Bundlemonster image plate BM19. After a couple of heavy lashings of Seche Vite, these babies stayed put for a couple of days!

Overall, these little Nail Art additions are really good, and can add an entirely different dimension to a manicure, not to mention some bling! They're really not all that expensive from their website, about £10 for a set of 5 wheels, each containing 12 segments with a different accessory in it. They are also a fantastic company, who take customer satisfaction very seriously, always looking to improve their products on OUR suggestion.

I hope you liked this design! Let me know :D

A clash of crackles: China Glaze Black Mesh

Hi guys! So for those of you that got the George R.R. Martin reference (clash of crackles, yeah), kudos. The rest of you should really check his books out! Coming from somebody that never liked Harry Potter or Lord of the rings, these books are great.
Moving on to polish, I thought of doing a comparison between the two crackle polishes I own. One is the famous and widely covered China Glaze Black Mesh, the other one is the no name brand Butterfly Collection, that is probably available only to (Eastern) European polish fanatics. I also went for a different look with each of these crackles, so that you can see the possibilities you have when you use them. Today I'll start with the China Glaze black crackle.

The base color:

Color Club Gossip Column is a dark teal. Altough it came out in a spring collection, I have to say I’m getting more of a fall vibe from this one. Application is good, the Color Club brush is similar to the China Glaze one and the polish is opaque in two thin coats. I haven’t worn this one for a long time so I can’t really say anything about the wear time. The only thing about this polish is the fact that it stains the cuticles, being so dark and all, so take care at removal and try to smudge it as little as possible on the area around the nail.

Sorry for the phone pictures, but the camera wouldn't capture the color of the polish properly.
phone picture again

The crackle:

Black Mesh was the first crackle I’ve ever used, so I must say I was kinda nervous the first time and thought I would maybe mess it up, but this wasn’t the case. You basically have to be careful and not apply it too thick or it won’t crack properly. You also aren’t allowed to go over the same area multiple times with the brush. Being a crackle though, you don’t have to be very careful to get the edges perfect, cause you’re going for a graffiti look. The polish is a little thick, but easy to work with. It dries to a matte finish so if you want it to be shiny, top coat is mandatory. What I’ve noticed in particular with this crackle polish is that it cracks in bigger chunks and the chunks stay on the nail and can be easily leveled with top coat. You will see in my next post why these observations are so important.

Verdict:

All in all, I like this look very much. The fact that I’ve used a darker base color made it not pop as much and you couldn’t really see it from the distance, but this only made it a more elegant crackle combo.

Show me your frankens and win Picture Polish!

Ok peoples. I want to do a future blog post that shares your franken polish creations that use either the colour morphing powders or spectraflair.

You see, today's spectrafranken was inspired by Cute-tickle Nails blog post about a wanting to create a deep chocolate brown holo.  Her franken inspired this franken, and I want you all to be able to see what others are creating and get inspired with your pigments.

My future blog post will have photos and links to your blogs and photos of franken polishes created using colour morphing powders or coarse grade spectraflair. I hope it to serve as a portal through to all your amazing polishes from one location. AND if you send me your link/photo then I will put you into a draw to win any three Picture Polish shades of your choice - and let me tell you there are some awesome PP shades to choose from!

So, if you have a blog, you just need to email me a link to your blog post about one of your frankens (which use either a colour morphing powder or coarse grade spectraflair).  You also need to give me permission to post one of your photos on my blog together with a link.

If you don't have a blog, you just need to email me a photo of something you have created, swatched (preferably on your nail, but a wheel pic is ok too) and allow me to post that photo on my blog.

Easy right.  My email is morenailpolish@iinet.net.au and I'll give you two weeks to create something and send it to me.  You can send me links after that date of course and I'm happy to update my post, but I will randomly draw a winner for the three Picture Polish shades on 14 October 2011.

So now onto my franken polish inspired by Cute-tickle Nails franken polish.  This is my 'frosted chocolate cake'.  It's a deep chocolate brown, with a golden shimmer and pretty rainbow holo.

The recipe for this (in a small 5ml bottle) was:
  • 2/3 a bottle of Ulta3 Chocolate Cake
  • 1/3 a bottle of Clear polish
  • 2 small straw spoonfuls (about the size of a grain of barley) of TKB Copper Sparkes
  • 3 incy wincy straw spoonfuls ( each the size of a grain of rice) of Spectraflair coarse grade
The TKB Copper Sparkes turned the creme Chocolate Cake polish into a shimmer, which I really should have swatched before I added the spectraflair, cause it was so pretty.

Anyway, get frankening ladies, and lets inspire each other!!

Chemistry 523

Oh man, please tell me, if you have a full time job, small children and a blog, where do you find time for all of it?  Of course the only thing out of those three that can be neglected is the blog. Not that I have neglected my blog (not yet anyway), but I can feel my blog mojo (can I call that my blojo?) fading a little at the moment.

Ok, enough whinging from me and onto the polish.  Today it's another Chemistry polish, #523.  This one was sourced from another awesome blogger friend with access to the Essential Beauty warehouse. Shatter me Claire scored this one for me.  I first saw it on her blog and pretty much begged her to get it for me, which she so very kindly did *blows kiss*.

Chemistry #523 is in the 500 series, which means it fits in with all the other Ozotic/Chemistry multichromes, but again, just like the last polish, I don't think there has ever been an Ozotic version.

It's a bronze multichrome that shifts from light gold through to almost a chocolate brown.  The shift isn't strong, but it gives the polish dimension and that little something different.  This was two coats over black

Above photo taken indoors, below in the sun.

Here you can see the darker brown colour shift.  It actually really feels like an Autumn shade.  Which of course it's spring here at the moment, but I can really see me wearing this a lot come the end of summer!

So that's the last one of my Chemistry/Ozotics/Artform polishes to add to the colour guide.  Actually no that is not quite true as I have the other 601 to post about too.
